In F. Herbert’s Dune, Paul Astreides say:

“he who can destroy a thing, controls a thing”.

As Paul is my favorite fictional character, I have decided to adopt this idea and let it guide my work. In a nutshell, I am trying to learn about the micromechanics of materials by observing the way they fail and the fingerpirnts left behind on the fractured surfaces. Hopefully, the lessons we learn will allow us to gain more control on structural alloys and improve structural reliability.
